Cornish Tipis au naturel
Mark and Tina Yates, writing in the February 07 edition of H&E Naturist magazine, describe their holiday staying in a traditional tipi in Cornwall, where the site owners are keen to encourage naturists to stay. Although not a nudist centre, many of the tent sites on the extensive estate are sufficiently isolated to relax as nature intended (and illustrated in the article).

Dorset Hideaway
Dorset Hideaway is a one-bedroomed log cabin, providing simple, but comfortable self catering accommodation for couples seeking a ‘Get away from it all’ break or holiday deep in the Dorset countryside. Situated in 60 acres of secluded private land near Beaminster, six miles from Bridport and the coast – handy for Burton Bradstock and Cogden clothes-optional beaches (Bare Britain page 35). The owners, Jon and Sue, advise, “the privacy afforded by the property allows topless and naked sunbathing without likelihood of intrusion, although guests are requested to be suitably respectful in doing so”.

Skinny dipping in Somerset
Stefanie Marsh wrote in The Times about her experience of staying at a B&B-style spa – Pennard Hill Farm, near Shepton Mallet, Somerset. Describing her accommodation she said:”The best thing about the Hay Barn is the heated indoor pool annexed to it. Nobody actually tells you and your lover to go swimming at midnight with no clothes on but that’s what it’s quite clearly there for”. Pennard Farm is next door to the site of the Glastonbury Festival.

Luxurious B&B near Slapton, Devon
Situated in one of the West Country’s most scenic locations, Hideaway is perched on the cliffs with stunning views over the sea towards Slapton beach (pictured on the cover of Bare Britain). The owners are naturist-friendly and offer skinny dipping in their small covered and heated swimming pool. Steep private steps lead down to a secluded cove where discreet bare bathing is usually possible. As the crow flies, Slapton nude beach is a mile away down the coast; and two miles by road. The deluxe accommodation, ideal for a romantic break, only has double rooms. Described in Bare Britain on page 29 – the new Hideaway website has just gone live.

A few minutes’ drive from Tything Barn, and handy for a number of unofficial bare beaches, The Old Chapel in Pembroke offers naturist-friendly bed and breakfast. Quality-graded with 2 diamonds from the AA, it has five letting rooms and accommodates up to 10 guests. It is not naturist, but the attractive gardens are secluded and depending on who else is staying, some nude sunbathing may be on the cards. Holkham wins national tourism award (page 59)
Rated in our top 5 British bare beaches, Holkham, in north Norfolk is part of a 25,000-acre estate which includes a privately owned grand 18th Century house. The national tourist board last night announced the results of the 2005 Enjoy England Excellence Awards – otherwise known as the English Tourism ‘Oscars’. Holkham Hall Estate has been named Small Visitor Attraction of the Year.
In the same Awards, and less than 15 miles from Holkham, the 5-diamond Holly Lodge Guest House was the national winner of the Bed and Breakfast category; making it a handy place for a weekend break with the bare beach nearby.
