We were delighted to be able to include a selection of Irish [unofficial] naturist beaches in our new guidebook. A great deal of assistance from the Irish Naturist Association facilitated our research. The INA has now given Bare Britain pride of place on the home page of its website, which has lots of useful information about the naturist scene there. Many thanks!
New beach bylaws in County Kerry, due to be introduced on 1 May 2005, caused concern for Irish naturists. Designed to deal with nuisance behaviour at local beaches, naturists feared a ban on nude bathing at Inch Strand, on the Dingle Peninsular [the stunning and popular unofficial swimsuits-optional shore described in Bare Britain - page 90]. Although the beach is covered by the new legislation – which includes the outlawing of wild camping – there’s no restriction on naturism amongst the long list of prohibitions.
Meanwhile, the Irish Naturist Association has organised a campaign to coincide with World Naturist Day, June 5, 2005 – BUMS on BEACHES! Seaside events will take place in Munster, Leinster and Connaught.
