Bristol Channel naked island outings

Following two successful naturist trips to the island of Flat Holm in the Bristol Channel, last year, a member of British Naturism has arranged another exclusive outing on Sunday 26 June, 2011. The boat departs mid-morning from Cardiff, allowing a fully naturist half-day on the island.

Additionally, and for the first time, a naturist trip has also been arranged this summer to the island of Steep Holm on Saturday 16 July, 2011. Departing early in the morning from Weston-super-Mare, the naked excursion offers nearly twelve hours as nature intended on the island! Genuine naturists interested in either trip need to make their own inquiries with the respective islands’ administration.

Marie Curie Skinny Dip

Alison Powell has been in touch to tell us about another skinny dip taking place this summer, which is in aid of the charity Marie Curie Cancer Care. Early Sunday morning on 19th June is the date, and the place is the National Trust owned Llangennith beach at Rhossili, on the beautiful Gower Peninsular, South Wales. The organisers are aiming for a world record and hoping at least 300 souls will be taking part. Apparently the police and the National Trust have both given the event their blessing, so it sounds like an opportunity not to be missed – and all in aid of a good cause!

The Great British Skinny Dip 2011

Sunday 17 July 2011 is the date for British Naturism’s nationwide Great British Skinny Dip. It will be a fun event happening across the UK. Many locations – including some traditionally clothed venues – will host skinny dips so that anyone can experience the joy of swimming without clothes.

According to BN, “There is nothing quite so liberating and life-affirming as swimming without clothes and the wonderful sensation of the water over your whole body. In fact, the swimsuit is the most pointless item of clothing invented – it neither keeps you warm nor dry!” If you are ready for a thrilling and different experience that might well change your life, put the date in your diary now. Jeremy and Sara offer naturist-friendly accommodation at their 4 star B&B in Buckinghamshire. They are both are ITEC qualified to give massage and there is a secluded sunbathing area and a sauna available for guests. Sauna and massage is also available without accommodation.

Naturists at Butterfly World

A unique new naturist event has been arranged at Butterfly World, St Albans, north of London, on Saturday 21 August 2010. The clothes-optional evening session runs from 6pm until 9pm and admission costs £5 for adults and £3 for children (3-16). The venue for this special occasion is only minutes away from three established naturist clubs – Spielplatz, Sunfolk Society and Five Acres – making it an ideal destination for a weekend break.

The project is still under development but by next year the centrepiece will be a large biome 100 metres in diameter and with 10,000 butterflies, humming birds, tropical plants and other insects. The clothes-optional evening is open to all.

Forest of Dean holiday cottage

From the beginning of November Simon and Ruth are making their Wye Valley holiday cottage in the Forest of Dean, near the Gloucestershire town of Coleford, available to naturists. Pike House Cottage has two double bedrooms and is set in its own attractive and completely secluded garden. A hot tub in the grounds can be used naked all year and the grounds offer complete privacy for nude sunbathing. According to the naturist owners it is a place that’s ‘ideal for a time away without clothes’.

Swansea and District Leisure Club (page 181)

Stuart Bertram, Chairman of Swansea and District Leisure Club, has advised updated details for the naturist swimming sessions. The club meets on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from September to May. Swim, sauna and steam room are available from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. New swim launches in Poole

David Ross has been in touch to tell us about a new naked swim and sauna at LA Fitness in Poole, Dorset. The inaugural naturist evening takes place on Friday 5 December ‘08, and it is hoped to make it a weekly event in the New Year. The session from 8pm – 10pm, is open to over 18s, with no membership required – reduced price tickets are available in advance, or just turn up at the door on the evening.

Splashdown is back in 2009

Following the the success of the inaugural Splashdown event earlier this year in Poole, Dorset, YBN (Young British Naturists) together with the UK’s national organisation British Naturism have announced the date for another night of fun next summer. Tower Park, Poole is the place and Saturday 11 July, 2009 is the date! Open to all naturists (including non-members), with admission by ticket only. Families and young people are especially welcome. With a choice of 12 flume rides and the Buccaneer Beach Lagoon and Landings play area for the younger ones, there’s something for everyone.

The date has been set to coincide with a BN beach day at nearby Studland bay on Sunday, 12 July.

We have just come across a useful website listing five of Cornwall’s naturist beaches – www.nudecornwall.co.uk. In addition to clear directions, the site provides a good selections of photographs to illustrate the bare bathing locations.

Naturist Farm Holidays, Lincolnshire

We heard from the owners of a new clothes-optional venture this week – a luxury self-catering bungalow set beside a private lake in rural Lincolnshire. In addition to relaxing on the spacious sundeck and soaking up life on the farm, guests can also enjoy the hot-tub and sauna. There is plenty of wildlife in the area and bikes are available to hire. For those who need to ’stay connected’, free wi-fi access to the internet is provided. The property is just 10 miles from the coastal resort of Skegness.

Lower Poulza Post website, Cornwall (page 20)

Lower Poulza Post Farm at Jacobstow, near Bude enjoys a rural position towards the end of a no through road. It consists of a detached cottage and 20 acres of land, including 4 acres used as a licensed and well-established naturist camping and caravan site. Handy for the North Cornwall coast and bare bathing at the nearby Strangles clothes-optional beach.

Lleyn peninsular, North Wales

Doug and Zoe writing in the latest edition of Naturist Life (No 132) describe their favorite sandy beach for bathing au naturel in North Wales. Porth Ceiriad faces south on the Mynydd Cilan headland, not far from Abersoch, and is reached by a footpath which ‘weaves its way down to the sea’. According to Doug, “It’s bounded east and west by high rocky headlands and backed by sheer cliff“. He suggests going round the spit of rock on the shore, where there is 300 yards of usually deserted sand to enjoy.

Berneray beach, North Uist

On the north-west coast of Berneray, in the Outer Hebrides and connected to North Uist by a causeway, is the location of a remote three-mile white sand beach with few visitors. It featured in a guide to some of the best places to swim in Britain, by Kate Rew and Margaret Drabble and published in the Guardian Weekend magazine – 24 May ‘08. According to Kate, “Clothes are off and I streak down the beach taking lungfuls of clear pure air”. Diving into the sea, she continues, “Unimpeded by clothes the water spirals past armpits, chest-bone and legs in a continual thread. It’s the whole sea and me.” She concludes by recommending it as an ideal spot for nude bathing.

Nudefest2008

Following the success of last year’s event, details of the planned events for Nudefest2008 have now been announced. Staged by British Naturism for members and non-members, it takes place a short distance from Newquay in Cornwall 19 – 22 June 2008. Newperran Holiday Park – a 25-acre, 400-pitch, usually-textile campsite – will once again become a naturist resort for the weekend. Details and booking: 0845-166 8407.

River Dart: best for skinny-dipping

Daniel Start, writing in The Times, extols the pleasures of bare bathing in the River Dart, in Devon. “In a deep gorge far upstream of Newbridge, lying on the flat, hot rocks by a gurgling river, you are miles from anywhere.” He continues, “This is a place made for lazy picnics and sunny afternoons. With miles of river to choose from, and not a soul in sight…”

The most remote river pools are apparently midway between Newbridge and Dartmeet, on the moors above Buckfastleigh. From either village, follow the river path through the woods for at least two miles.

A Northern Eden – Tropical World, Leeds

Following the huge success of the naturist evening at the Eden Project, Cornwall in 2007, naturists in the north of England are staging their own event at Tropical World at Roundhay Park, Leeds later this year. The date set is Saturday 20 September ‘08, from 7pm – 10pm. Admission is a very reasonable £9, but early bookings attract a £2 discount (reducing the price to just £7)! With a tropical rainforest, a desert zone and butterfly house to explore, the buzz suggests this will prove to be an equally popular event. Don’t leave it too late get hold of tickets.

Penhale Sands, Perranporth, Cornwall (Page 20)

UPDATE: The ban on nude bathing at Penhale Sands has been overturned and naturists are once again welcome to enjoy the beach.

The beach has recently been at the centre of press speculation concerning its future as a naturist location. The national organisation British Naturism has received a letter from the Defence Estates, which own part of the beach, advising that naturists are to be banned from MOD land. The letter suggests that the local parish council who control the other part will do the same. We understand BN proposes sending a robust response indicating that such a ban has no foundation in law and that banning naturists would not solve the alleged problem of inappropriate behaviour by individuals unconnected with the many genuine naturists who enjoy the beach.

The beach has a history of naturist use stretching back more than 40 years and British Naturism is now suggesting working with all parties to have it made official. Watch for more information as it becomes available.
